The Green Gigaton Challenge (GGC) founding partners welcome the launch of the LEAF Coalition. LEAF – Lowering Emissions by Accelerating Forest finance – can be a key contribution towards achieving the goals of the GGC.
LEAF provides a model for bringing together public and private efforts to protect and sustainably use the world’s forests. By mobilizing at least $1 billion in financing, LEAF represents one of the largest-ever public-private partnerships to finance the protection of tropical forests in a way that supplements, and does not substitute for, deep cuts in companies’ own emissions. Together, we aim to raise global climate ambition, catalyzing funds for one billion tons of emissions reductions by 2025, and annually after that as an aspirational goal, for tropical and subtropical forest and restoration programs.
